Pivoting is something I am good at. Anyone who knows our Smartwork story and how we came to be an Auckland based company won’t be surprised that we have honed in on our quantum knowledge of the learning market to create our first ‘productised’ offering.
Decades of experience in designing learning materials for secondary and tertiary markets has given us a solid background in which to combine our instructional and graphic design skills to create a unique offering to the corporate elearning market.
As an ITO client recently put it “you guys have the edge, you combine excellent learning design skills with top graphic design skills to create a well-rounded learning experience.” It’s all those years of book designing that has helped us craft an expertise in engagement and there’s nothing like a good dose of well-rounded storytelling to give someone a good learning experience.
The birth of Skillpod
Skillpod started as a seed of an idea after hearing businesses ask for the same solutions for their eLearning needs. All wanted a way to have ownership of the material so it reflected their organisation’s language and brand.
We found ourselves creating similar materials over and over again, with the only change being the personalisation. No surprises though for guessing that everyone’s budgets were limited. This meant we always struggled to show how engaging a good quality learning experience could be. Elearning technology is still relatively young and changing at a fast pace and there’s not a lot of good stuff out there to show what can truly be done.
Now that doesn’t mean we need a budget of tens of thousands of dollars. You can do a lot with very little, but it’s really hard to describe what you know can be achieved in words, when visually you can see it straight away. This in turn, makes it hard to get any commitment to increasing budgets.
So we thought, why not create a high-quality package that is engaging to learners and is customisable for each organisation? One that an organisation can tailor for ‘their people, place and brand’.
And why not take ownership one step further, by delivering the content in a way that suits everyone – either hosting on your LMS or using a cloud-based server. Giving organisations an elearning solution that is truly theirs, in the way they need it.
And that’s how Skillpod was born. Skillpod allows organisations to pick and choose from a varied selection of training modules to build an elearning programme that they own.
Businesses can make their modules unique through a wide range of options:
- Tailoring – creating modules that reflect their people, their language and their brand through a wide variety of changeable elements.
- Hosting – modules can be hosted on a Cloud-based server or in-house LMS
- Annual user licences – meaning no monthly subscriptions
- Choice of company or per user licences
